PHILLY! The police are testifying to @phlcouncil right now! Tune in at phlcouncil.com/watch

Today is a day of action: we are asking all of our Philadelphia followers to spend today tweeting, emailing, and calling @phillymayor @phlcouncil & @darrell_clarke to DEMAND that Kenneys pledge to not increase the PPD budget by $14 million is not nearly enough. We are demanding that the city of Philadelphia cut $120 million from the PPD (the amount that Kenney has increased the police budget since he took office) and reinvest that money back into our community via the social services. We need your help for this!

hi it’s us! so far you’ve raised about $1500 in t-shirt sales (not sure about Patience bandcamp digital downloads/ we don’t own the masters to our first two records so that money doesn’t go to us) we would love to get this to at least 2k so we’re leaving up the store for the next few days to get the most money to @blmphilly & @yasprojectphilly as we possibly can.
Thank you everyone for your support so far !! Link in bio. We love u Xx #facesforthealgorithm

You have shown up for us in such an extraordinary way these past two and a half months - far beyond what we imagined to be possible. It’s time for us to redirect resources to organizations and activists in need. On June 5 (Bandcamp Day) we will be donating 50% of our proceeds to @blmphilly and 50% to @yasprojectphilly . Thank you all for your support. We love you.

Thank you,
Missy, Bear, Kaleen & Thanasi

From today on the steps of the Hall of Justice in LA. 12,000 + roses for: -The first person to die from Covid in LA County Jail.
-For the 8 people killed in Sheriff custody last year.
-For the 941 people murdered by police in LA County since 2000
-For the 12,000 people caged in LA County jails.

We laid our roses down for all these lives, and for the life of #breonnataylor who would’ve been 27 today.

Thank you to all of those who organized this at @justicelanow and @wp4bl

Ok, so this is something I’ve learned more about recently and wanted to share.

When I first heard “Defund the Police” being spoken, I wasn’t really sure what it meant. It was being said by people who I have deep admiration and respect for, but I was still confused. It sounded too… big. It sounded like a pipe-dream. And maybe the little voice of that scared white guy inside me was like, “uh, okay but… completely defunding and getting rid of the police? That doesn’t sound very realistic OR safe…” But what we are finally choosing to acknowledge as a country (after decades of it being said and vividly shown to us) is this…  that MOST BLACK AND BROWN FOLX DO NOT FEEL SAFER WITH THE POLICE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.

Here is the reality: our federal & local governments have, historically, allocated A LOT OF MONEY to the police. Last year here in Los Angeles, the LAPD got approx. $1.18 billion. That’s a LOT of money.
So what if... instead of giving all that money to the police, we put it towards…
Access to health-care & mental health-care?
Affordable, high-quality housing?
Access to food, jobs, child-care, etc.?
Doesn’t it make sense that putting money towards these resources in our black communities and communities of color would make them feel “safer”? To me, the answer couldn’t be more obvious. So I am lending my voice now, and I encourage you to lend yours too—

We need to DEFUND THE POLICE.

Yesterday, a very big and important first step was taken by the city of LA. They pledged to re-allocate $250 million dollars of the 2020-2021 budget to communities of color and black communities. I hope we see more of this and continue to #DefundthePolice as we fight for black and brown lives. -Sam
